LISS Athletic are in second place in the Puma Engineering Hampshire Premier League Senior Division after winning 1-0 against Fleetlands at the Newman Collard Playing Fields on Saturday.
Lenny Burney’s 60th-minute goal broke the deadlock and was enough to give the home side their 15th win in a row in the league.
Liss Athletic manager Rich Bessey said: “We set out to score more goals, but I have to give Fleetlands credit because they came with a game plan to contain us.
“We’re a scalp now and I think Fleetlands will frustrate a lot of the top sides, but it’s another clean sheet and another three points for us.”
Liss have added to their squad, with midfielders Josh Garvey and Tom Doughty joining in the last week. Garvey made his debut for the club in Saturday’s victory.
Rich Bessey’s side were also boosted by Alex Miroy’s return to action on Saturday, as he came off the bench.
Bessey said: “Josh is good on the ball and is a strong lad.
“Tom is good on the ball and has great vision, and he will become fit with the first team and the reserves over the next few weeks.
“Alex came through training well last week and came off the bench on Saturday, which is a huge boost for us.”
Bessey is also expecting to add goalkeeper Luke Douglas to his squad, and provide competition for current goalkeeper Brad Hansler.
“Luke is one of the best goalies around,” said Bessey.
“He’s played 250 games in the Wessex Premier Division and he’s a great lad. His leadership and experience will be invaluable for us.”
