Petersfield Town 4 Moneyfields 1: PETERSFIELD Town booked their place in the final of the Portsmouth Senior Cup with a stunning victory over Wessex Premier Division leaders Moneyfields on Tuesday night.

They trailed 1-0 at half time but three goals in 15 second half minutes sealed the win for the Rams and a place in May’s final at Fratton Park against Havant and Waterlooville.

It was an excellent performance from the Petersfield players and ended a run of 11 straight defeats.

The first half mirrored the Rams’ recent league form, in that the visitors dominated the play and went into the interval in the lead.

Moneyfields took the lead on 17 minutes after working the ball up the left and when it was played to the right hand side of the penalty area, Jake Raine fired his shot home from a tight angle.

The visitors nearly doubled their lead two minutes before half time when a diagonal ball from left to right sent Steve Hutchings racing clear of the home defence. He only had keeper Conor Beattie to beat but the Rams’ stopper blocked the striker’s shot behind for a corner.

As the second half began, most people watching thought the visitors would go on to win the game comfortably but Petersfield didn’t read that script.

They drew level on 52 minutes when Matt Andrews had a shot turned around the post by keeper Steven Mowthorpe and from the corner, the ball was initially blocked on the line before being played to Adam Cripps at the far post, who blasted his shot into the net.

The Rams then took the lead on 71 minutes after the ball was played into the penalty area from the left and Ryan Woodford rifled his shot into the roof of the net.

Petersfield got their third goal eight minutes later when Andrews chased down a long through ball and hooked his cross into the box and Woodford was well placed to power his header into the roof of the net.

Rams supporters were in dreamland four minutes before the end of the match when Dan Woodward under-hit a back pass to Mowthorpe and Max Smith read the situation to intercept the ball before rolling his shot into the empty net after taking it around the stranded keeper.

Moneyfields tried to pull a goal back in injury time when Woodward shot from 25 yards out but Beattie tipped it over the crossbar.
