ALRESFORD Town had a mixed week, with a cup win followed by a defeat in the league.
The Magpies started their week with a 4-1 victory against Newport IOW at Arlebury Park in the second round of the Sydenhams League Cup last Tuesday night.
Sam Doswell gave the Magpies the lead in the 27th minute, and Chris Mason doubled the home side’s advantage on 30 minutes.
Sam Burt scored a penalty in the 75th minute to make it 3-0, although George Holmes pulled a goal back for the visitors on 77 minutes to make it 3-1.
Burt scored his second of the evening and Alresford’s fourth in the 80th minute to make it 4-1.
Alresford then slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Tadley Calleva at Arlebury Park in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division on Saturday afternoon.
Brett Denham gave the visitors the lead in the 18th minute when he tapped the ball into the net, and Cameron George doubled Tadley Calleva’s advantage on 79 minutes.
Rowan Vine pulled a goal back for Alresford in the 86th minute to make it 2-1, but the Magpies were unable to find an equaliser as they fell to a narrow defeat.
