PETERSFIELD Town chairman Graeme Moir says the club has no concerns about the Love Lane pitch going into the new season, despite a friendly match having to be called off at the last minute.

The scheduled home game against Wessex Premier Division side Sholing had to be cancelled three hours before kick-off last Tuesday evening.

Club officials made the decision due to some areas of the playing surface being deemed not ready to be played on and more work was needed to prepare them.

Last night’s (Tuesday) home friendly against Havant and Waterlooville was switched to Westleigh Park to give the pitch more time to be ready for the first Southern League home game of the season against Farnborough on August 9.

More work is due to carried out on the Love Lane pitch this week to ensure it is ready in time for the season.

“We had no choice other than to call the Sholing game off last week,” said Moir.

“We have been working on the pitch during the close season but, unfortunately, it is not where we want it to be at this moment.

“We have taken extra advice on it now and more work is being carried out to ensure the playing surface is ready to go for the first home game.

“It’s not where we wanted to be so close to the start of the season but it is part of the challenge this club faces.

“Facilities are being improved and we need to keep working to get these right.”
