PETERSFIELD Town’s Remembrance ceremony attracted the attention of people right across the south of England.

Coverage by the BBC proved to be the icing on top of pre-match events on Saturday which marked the fallen heroes of both Petersfield and Andover, as well as former Rams player Darren Chant, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2009.

The players were joined by friends of Chant and officials from visitors Andover Town on the pitch before the Wessex League Premier Division encounter between the two clubs.

Wreaths were laid by both clubs at the side of the pitch and a bugle player was in attendance to sound the Last Post and Reveille either side of the minute’s silence observed by everyone inside the Love Lane stadium.

The ceremony was then featured on BBC South’s news bulletin on Saturday evening, with an interview also conducted on BBC?Radio Solent before kick-off.

Chairman Graeme Moir said: “This year’s ceremony set just the right tone for everyone. Both clubs wanted to remember the fallen heroes of their towns.

“We also do something to remember Darren Chant at this time every year. It is important we remember Darren and all those who died from our town and we were pleased our ceremony received wider attention too.”

The Rams are in league action at home again this Saturday when they face Newport IOW?at Love Lane.
