Petersfield Town 1 Christchurch 1 (Petersfield won 5-4 on penalties): PETERSFIELD Town entertained Premier Division Christchurch in the League Cup at Love Lane last Tuesday night and progressed to the next round after a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Against the run of play, Petersfield took the lead in the 33rd minute through Harry Giles and, buoyed by this, they comfortably reached the interval in front.

The Rams had a good opportunity to extend their lead in the 50th minute when Jordan Neal’s shot hit the post and the missed chance proved costly when Kieran Douglas levelled for the visitors, heading home a 63rd minute corner.

Undaunted, Petersfield continued to press forward and came close with a 77th-minute Will Essai shot which went wide and an 88th minute Luke Payne shot that was held by Jake Poynter.

The final chance in normal time fell to Christchurch when Rams keeper Tim Jackson saved from Edgar Zann and, with the scores level at full time, the tie went straight to penalties.

The Rams went first but failed to convert their first penalty to give Christchurch the upper hand but then it was back level as Christchurch failed to score from their fifth penalty to take the shoot-out to sudden death.

The hosts immediately missed a penalty but Christchurch also missed and the Rams then went ahead for the first time. Christchurch missed their third penalty in a row to send the jubilant Rams through 5-4.
