PETERSFIELD Town will be looking to put the dramas of Saturday’s half time departure of manager John Robson behind them against Moneyfields tonight (Tuesday).

First team assistant manager Matt Collins and reserve team manager Shane Brayson will run the football side of things for this Portsmouth Senior Cup semi final tie at Love Lane (kick-off 7.45pm).

Robson left the ground at half time during Saturday’s Southern League match against Kidlington after his side had slumped to being 3-0 down after half an hour – they eventually lost the game 4-2.

Collins and Brayson are taking charge of first team affairs tonight and the committee are expected to meet this week to put in place a plan for the football side of the club for the rest of the season.

The Rams face a tough challenge in the form of the Wessex Premier Division leaders and chairman Graeme Moir believes it is a night where everyone at the club needs to pull together.

“The football keeps on coming at this stage of the season so it leaves you with little time to reflect on the events of the weekend and make any major changes,” said Moir.

“I’ve met with John Robson since Saturday and he has his reasons for what happened – and in many ways I can sympathise with what happened due to everything that he has had to try and cope and deal with this season.

“It seems very bizarre when you take everything that has happened to us this season that we are competing in the semi finals of a cup competition tonight but that chance to get to a final has come our way.

“It would be fantastic for the club to have a night at the Portsmouth Senior Cup final against Havant and Waterlooville – to have something for everyone at the club to look forward to after the season we have had would be great.

“But Moneyfields are a formidable side at the moment and despite our respective league statuses they will go into tonight’s game as strong favourites to win.

“They are deservedly leaders of the Wessex League and their manager Dave Carter has assembled a very good squad of players down there. Good luck to them and I hope they go on to win their league.

“What we need to do in the Petersfield camp tonight is all pull together and work together. Football is a funny old game and, who knows, if we can put in a strong performance and one or two things go our way we might just be able to cause an upset and get through to that final.”
