PETERSFIELD Town are looking to hit the ground running for the 2017-18 campaign so they can put their current dismal season behind them.

Rams officials face a wait to learn where the first team will be playing next season after finishing bottom of the Southern League Division 1 Central.

Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at home to Arlesey Town confirmed the club finished on only nine points from their league campaign – the worst record in the country at step four level of the national non-league system.

The Football Association are due to meet in the coming weeks to determine where clubs will be playing when the new season kicks off in August. Petersfield expect to return to the Wessex League but they could be placed in the Combined Counties League or even win a reprieve to remain at step four level.

Rams chairman Graeme Moir stressed it was important for the club not to sit and wait for that decision.

“We have lots of planning and discussions ongoing and regardless of where we are placed for next season we can get on with a lot of the work we need to do right away,” said Moir.

“It is important we hit the ground running and not sit back and sulk about the season just finished – it’s gone now and we can’t change the past, we can only help to shape our future.

“In the next few weeks we will be sitting down together in the club and making decisions about the way ahead.”
