Petersfield Town started their Wessex League Premier Division campaign with a 1-1 draw at Downton on Saturday.

The hosts took the lead in the 16th minute when Luke Burbidge got on the end of a long ball, went round Rams keeper Harry Greenfield and slotted his finish into the empty net.

The Rams got back on level terms on 64 minutes when Alfie Stringer’s cross hit the post and the ball rebounded to Freddie Beeson, who slotted home to make it 1-1 and earn Petersfield a share of the spoils.

Alton started their Combined Counties Premier Division South campaign with a 1-1 draw at Redhill on Saturday.

The Brewers took the lead in the 62nd minute through Isaac Nash, but Seanan McKillop’s 82nd-minute equaliser earned Redhill a point.
