PETERSFIELD Town manager Ian Saunders is aiming to end another fantastic calendar year for the club with a victory.

The Rams face Northwood tonight (kick-off 7.45pm) at Love Lane as they bring the curtain down on another success-filled 12 months for the club.

They won the Wessex Premier Division title and secured promotion to the Southern League after carrying out considerable improvements to their stadium to ensure it met the required ground grading criteria.

They also reached the finals of the Wessex League Cup and Portsmouth Senior Cup, enjoyed the club’s best ever run in the FA Cup, appeared in the FA Trophy for the first time and more than held their own in the Southern League since the current season got under way.

Their successes of 2015 came on the back of a similar level of achievement in 2014 which brought promotion from Wessex Division 1 and saw various club records broken.

“The year of 2015 has been another fantastic 12 months for this club,” said Saunders as he reflected on the achievements of the year.

“We really can be proud of everything we have achieved to date. It is amazing to look at what we have done when you consider the position we were in just over two years ago.

“The success has been built on a real drive to take this club forward and the key for us now is to continue with that same drive so that we keep progressing.

“Success may be measured differently now that we have stepped up to step four of the non league system. We aren’t always going to be able to enjoy promotions and cup finals year in year out now as we are playing at a higher level.

“However, still being in the Southern League at the end of this season will be a huge achievement for us and the key for us then is to find the ways to be able to keep moving forward and upwards in the seasons ahead.”

The Rams have taken a huge step to securing their step four status over the festive period by winning their last three league games in a row, including thrilling 4-3 victories in their last two games.

They now sit in 13th place and with three home matches in the next seven days, they will be hoping this provides the Launchpad to climb up the Division 1 Central table in the second half of the season.

Saunders added: “The last three games will count for nothing unless we go out and get the right result against Northwood.

“They will be a tough side to beat as they were league leaders for a while at the start of the season. We will need to show all of the fight and resilience we have shown in the last three games to get three points tonight.”
