PETERSFIELD Town boss Jim Macey has been impressed by what he has seen so far in pre-season.

The former Amesbury Town and Whitchurch United coach may have added a few wise old heads he knows to the squad for experience.

But it is how the youngsters he had waiting for him at Love Lane from last season are performing at the moment and have taken on the challenge of stepping up to first team football which has pleased him most during the build up to the 2017-18 Wessex League season.

However, he warns that their biggest challenge awaits them when the serious action gets under way.

Macey said: “We are having an OK pre-season so far with a lot of the reserves stepping up from last season’s successful squad.

“I have had a good look at most of them and I?am happy there is plenty to work with and I?will push them to become better players.

“We have added a few experienced players to the side to help the lads adjust to the level which is a big step up for a few and they are responding well at the moment.

“But the big test comes when the season gets under way. We know we will be coming up against some very good sides this season with a lot of clubs spending big money and looking to go up.

“However, that challenge is not a bad thing as there will be some top players the boys will come up against.

“I?am looking forward to having a good season and fingers crossed the players can achieve our goals.”
