PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill is proud of his players after they picked up a point against high-flying AFC Stoneham on Saturday.

The Rams kept a clean sheet to earn a creditable 0-0 draw at Love Lane.

“It’s a brilliant point,” said Summerhill.

“The lads did well and produced a really disciplined performance.

“We knew we wouldn’t have a lot of the ball, but the players worked hard and were superb to a man.

“We set up to be tight and compact and absorb pressure. The lads broke the play up and made it bitty and horrible. It was a really professional performance.

“Stoneham are a good footballing side, so we weren’t going to open the game up. We had the best chances and we could have nicked it. It’s the most pleasing result of the season.”

Summerhill was also delighted with how his team’s young players performed.

He said: “Kris Stephens and Harry Tremlett were away and we had a young side, so Gav Keogh came in to help out and give us some experience.

“Young Will Webb made his second start, and Marvin Orepo and Bailey Newbury both made an impact off the bench. They’re all good enough already and they’re enjoying it as well, which is a real positive for us.”

One player Summerhill welcomed back on Saturday was goalkeeper Nick Hall.

He added: “Nick made a massive difference. He takes crosses so well and commands his penalty area.”
