PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill was left to rue his side’s missed chances in their defeat against Newport (IOW) on Saturday.

The Rams missed a penalty and several other opportunities at 0-0, before eventually succumbing to a 3-0 defeat.

“We had chance, after chance, after chance,” said Summerhill.

“We missed the penalty and most of the play in the first half was in their half.

“It looked like only one team was going to win it.

“They scored from a long-range shot, but at 1-0 at half time I wasn’t concerned.

“We didn’t need to change anything, we just had to keep going. I thought in the second half it would only be a matter of time for us.

“They caught us out a couple of times in the second half, and once the second goal went in we had a lot of possession but didn’t do much with it.”

Despite the defeat, Summerhill was pleased with aspects of his team’s display and remains upbeat.

He said: “We had enough chances so it’s not all doom and gloom, although our final ball into the box was woeful at times.

“We were so dominant in the first half.

“Mike Prew came from the reserves and was our man-of-the-match. He played really well and he’ll stay with us now.

“If we’d scored the penalty and taken our chances we’d have won.

“The win and draw from our previous two matches means one defeat is not a massive disaster.”
