PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill has spoken of his delight at the positive end to the season his side have had.

The Rams pulled in four points from their final two league games – a 2-0 home win on Saturday against Shaftesbury and a 2-2 draw at Newport IOW on Monday.

It meant that there were plenty of smiles on faces throughout the club after what has been a tough season for Petersfield.

Their bottom place finish in the Wessex Premier Division table already had been confirmed before these final two matches.

But the fact his side put in solid performances to close out the season has sent Summerhill buzzing into the work he needs to do during the close season period.

“We’ve got a lot of hard work ahead of us during the summer months to get the right coaching staff and players in before we start pre-season training.

“But these two results make that work a lot more pleasurable and in some ways a little easier.

“Rather than the season ending in more defeats I can now speak to people with the positives provided by two good results at the end of the campaign.”

Petersfield must now wait to learn of their fate in terms of which division they will be playing when the new season kicks off.

They will most likely be relegated to Wessex Division 1 but there is the possibility also of a sideways move into the Combined Counties League set up.
