PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill wants his side to return to winning ways when they host Fawley at Love Lane on Saturday in Division One of the Sydenhams Wessex League (3pm).

The Rams lost 1-0 at Andover Town on Saturday, and Summerhill wants his side to react positively to the defeat.

“I thought if we got a point at Andover and then beat Fawley that wouldn’t be a bad return,” said the Rams boss.

“Fawley on Saturday is now a must-win game, so we’ve put undue pressure on ourselves.

“We’ve got to bounce back and we’ve got to be positive.”

The Rams drew 1-1 at Fawley earlier in the season, and Summerhill is expecting another tough test for his side.

He said: “Fawley beat Bemerton not long ago and it will be a difficult task for us.

“We struggled at Fawley earlier in the season on their small and compact pitch.

“We’ve got to win on Saturday, though, as if not our season might fizzle out. Anyone can beat anyone in this league.

“We need to get back to our values. We are a good side, but we need to produce what makes us a good side, which is hard work and desire.”

Petersfield will also be in league action next Tuesday night, when they will host Alton at Love Lane in an East Hampshire derby (7.45pm).

And the Rams will be looking for revenge after losing 2-1 at Alton earlier in the season.

“If we get beat by Fawley and Alton we’ll have a big recovery job to do,” said Summerhill.

“If we beat Fawley then we’ll go into the Alton game with confidence. Fawley is a big game and we can’t hide that. We need to man up and face it.

“We’re a young side, but we need to take responsibility for our actions on the pitch.

“This is now a test of our character, but if we bounce back and get six points it will be a massive boost for us.”
