PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill wants his side to embark on another unbeaten run.

The Rams’ 13-game unbeaten sequence came to an end when they lost 2-0 against Paulsgrove at Love Lane in the second round of the Portsmouth Senior Cup last Tuesday night.

“Kris Stevens and Ryan Kennedy were suspended and we had five regulars missing,” said Summerhill. “However, the guys in the squad should have been strong enough.

“We were outmuscled by Paulsgrove. We were 2-0 down after four minutes and we didn’t create anything. It was an awful game of football.

“We’re a lot stronger this season and we shouldn’t be outmuscled. Our run had to end at some point, and it’s better it was in the Portsmouth Senior Cup than in the league or the FA Vase.

“It’s not the end of the world, but it was a sad ending.

“We had added pressure from the unbeaten run, so we can start afresh now.

“In the first four minutes we were done by two straight long balls over the top and were outmuscled by their forward.”

One bright note from the Paulsgrove defeat was that new recruit Charlie Merritt made his debut for the Rams.

“Charlie had a mixed debut, but you can see he’s a good player and he’s a great addition for us,” said Summerhill.

The Rams are set to return to league action on Saturday, when they face a trip to lowly Folland Sports, and Summerhill is aiming for three points.

“We will look to go to Folland and win,” he said. “It is one we need to go and win.”

The Rams haven’t played in the league since beating Downton 2-1 at Love Lane on October 19, but they still find themselves in ninth position in the Sydenhams Wessex League Division One table.

“Results have gone for us and there is still a lot to play for,” said Summerhill.

“It will be nice to turn our attention back to the league. To be honest, the league is what we’re judged on.

“We’ve got a very together group and hopefully the break doesn’t affect us. We’re hoping to have Harry Tremlett back, which would be massive for us.

“Will Essai could be back before Christmas, and Bailey Newbury isn’t far away from returning, which would be like a new signing for us. There’s already a bit of a fixture backlog so we need to get people back fit as we will need everyone.”
