Petersfield Town 1 Verwood Town 0: THE RAMS brought their losing streak to an end with a thoroughly-deserved 1-0 victory over Verwood Town at Love Lane on Saturday.
They got off to a perfect start when in the third minute Matt Rowland went through and slotted home.
Boosted by the early success the Rams continued to press forward and went close to increasing their lead just five minutes later.
Verwood had to wait until the 20th minute for their first real chance when the Rams’ new signing, former Portsmouth youth team keeper Nick Hall, produced a fine save to tip the ball over.
Other than this Verwood rarely threatened, although they did come close before half time when Hall tipped a header on to the crossbar.
Verwood applied more pressure after the break and had Petersfield penned in their own half for much of the time, but the Rams were determined not to surrender their lead and as the game entered the final 15 minutes they began to pose more of a threat going forward.
The visitors’ cause was not helped when they were reduced to ten men in the 80th minute after Michael Johnston was dismissed.
In the 85th minute the Rams’ best chance of the half fell to Harry Tremlett but his header from a Richard Covey corner hit the bar. Shortly afterwards Petersfield were also reduced to ten men when Rowland was sent off for a second yellow card.
In the final minutes the Rams retained possession to see themselves through to a much-needed victory.
