PETERSFIELD Town chairman Graeme Moir has paid tribute to John Robson, following his departure from the first team manager’s hot seat.
The committee at the Love Lane club installed Robson until the end of the season during their Southern League campaign but they decided not to ask him to continue in the role following the Portsmouth Senior Cup final last Tuesday evening.
Robson joined Petersfield for what was his second spell as manager at Love Lane – he was in charge during the club’s Isthmian League days during the 1980s – during mid-October.
Although the Rams finished their Southern League Division 1 Central campaign with only nine points, Robson was praised by the chairman for sticking to the task in what proved to be a tough season.
Moir said: “I believe John deserves some praise and credit for keeping going until the very last game of the most difficult season I have experienced in my ten years at the club.
“Results have not been good and plenty of people would have walked away from the role when the situation wasn’t going their way.
“But John kept going and completing the season with everything that was going on at the club in the last campaign was a minor miracle in itself.
“John is one of non-league football’s great characters – he is much-loved by those involved in the game across the south of England and for me personally, it has been a pleasure to work closely with John during his time at Love Lane.
“People I meet and talk to about the club only have kind words to say about John – despite what happened here this season everyone should continue to hold John in very high regard.
“I enjoyed his company throughout the season and I am sad and sorry things did not go his way during his time as manager.
“On behalf of everyone at the club I want to thank John for his efforts during his time with us as manager and he will always be a welcome visitor to Love Lane.”
