Fawley 1 Petersfield Town 1: PETERSFIELD Town earned a share of the spoils at Fawley in Division 1 of the Sydenhams Wessex League on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams got off to a bad start, falling behind in the fourth minute when a static defence failed to deal with Steve Green’s free kick, which was fired home by Ben Bolton.
As the match progressed the visitors gradually got their game together, with their best chance a 22nd minute free kick from Harry Tremlett that just went over the crossbar. In the 41st minute the Rams deservedly equalised when Richard Covey found Will Essai, who drilled a shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
After the break the Rams continued to look the team more likely to score and they went close in the 55th minute when Gari Judd forced a fine save from Jon Page.
When Fawley’s Mark Lilley was sent off for a second caution in the 62nd minute it seemed only a matter of time before Petersfield would take the lead, but the dismissal seemed to galvanise the home side as they increasingly came back into the game.
On 72 minutes Harry Hawkins missed a golden opportunity for Fawley when he put his shot wide, but just a few minutes later Tremlett went close for the Rams with a shot that went narrowly wide.
In the final minutes Petersfield pressed hard for a winner, with Jordan Geddes going close, but in the end they had to settle for a draw.
