PETERSFIELD Town were left counting the cost again at the weekend after another home game was called off due to the weather.
The heavy frost overnight on Friday rendered the Love Lane pitch unplayable for the visit of league leaders Chalfont St Peter on Saturday afternoon.
That was the fourth home league game in a row that has been postponed for Petersfield and they have not played football of any kind – whether it be a first team, reserves or youth team match – at home since the visit of Leighton Town on December 19.
One fallout of the cancellations is an increasingly busy fixture list – the Rams are now due to play on Saturdays and in midweek all the way through until the beginning of March.
Another issue is on the business side of the club. No home football for the last 32 days means limited funds have been coming into the club over that period of time.
Chairman Graeme Moir said: “It is a frustrating period on and off the pitch for us. From a football perspective we just want to get playing again but the weather is showing little signs of relenting in the coming weeks.
“Off the pitch, we have some funds coming into the club but matchdays is where the main revenue comes from most weeks.
“We have had a couple of winters now where there have been extended periods of no football due to weather.
“The only sustainable answer for the future is more use of artificial pitches.”
