Beaconsfield SYCOB 5 Petersfield Town 0: IT CERTAINLY was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s show for Petersfield Town in this heavy Division 1 Central defeat on Monday evening.
FA Cup glory on the Saturday was followed by another dismal showing in the Southern League as the Rams failed to get their usual game going in any fashion, with the home side dominating play pretty much from start to finish.
Beaconsfield took the lead on eight minutes through good build up play in midfield and Charlie Losasso was put clear of the Rams defence before he slid the ball under the advancing keeper Anthony Ender and into the net.
The second goal came on 17 minutes when Trevor Montero’s low shot from the edge of the box was spilled in front of goal by Ender and Aaron Berry slid in quickly to turn home the rebound.
Petersfield then mustered a rare attack when a deep cross from the right to the far post found Jamie Ford unmarked but he sent his header back across goal rather than directing it on target.
The home side went close to scoring again when a corner was cleared to Losasso and his cross into the box found Alex Murray, whose header had to be pushed around the post by Ender.
It was 3-0 on 36 minutes when a cross from the right was not cleared properly and the loose ball fell to Losasso, whose low shot beat Ender at his near post.
The home side weren’t finished yet and four minutes before half time they scored their fourth goal when the ball was played up into the penalty area to Berry, who had time to hold the ball up, turn and fire his shot into the corner past Ender.
The Rams didn’t make the best of starts to the second half when they fell further behind on 53 minutes when Losasso was given the simplest of chances to complete his hat-trick - a tap in from close range from a cross from the right.
Petersfield went close to scoring two minutes later when Joe Briggs played the ball up to Howard Neighbour and his shot from the edge of the penalty area took a big deflection and although the keeper had dived the wrong way he managed to block the goal-bound shot with his outstretched leg.
On 67 minutes the home side went close again when a free kick was curled into the box from the left but Guri Demuria hooked his shot over the crossbar from close range.
Briggs was starting to get more into the game on the right wing and he set up two chances. His cross dropped at the feet of Alek Przespolewski but he fired his shot across the face of goal rather than on target and Briggs then set up Neighbour who slid in at the near post but put his effort wide.
Joe Richardson went close with a volley from the edge of the penalty area which dropped just wide of the goal before Ender had to make two good saves in the closing minutes of the game.
He dived full length to his right to keep out substitute Jack Read’s low shot and Lee Togwell’s follow up effort had to be hacked clear off the line. Read then had another opportunity to score but Ender again got down well to produce a fine one handed save.
Petersfield: Ender, Hyde, Wain (Lowley), Richardson, Sackman, Ford, Neighbour, Przespolewski, Dixon (Neal), Briggs, Green (Thompson). Subs not used: Read, O Searle.
