Petersfield Town 0 AFC Dunstable 7: PETERSFIELD Town are starting to be on the end of the kind of results they were handing out regularly during their glory seasons at Love Lane.
Promotion years of 2014 and 2015 aren’t that long ago but at the moment they seem like a lifetime away such is the Rams’ current poor form.
The home side had no complaints about this result against a side trying to cement their place in the end of season play-offs but they didn’t help themselves by going 3-0 down after only ten minutes.
Petersfield keeper Conor Beattie had an afternoon to forget in goal which was summed up by the way the first goal was conceded after only two minutes.
He allowed a cross from the right to bounce up in front of him and on a dry, bobbly end of season pitch it looped up and over him to give Bernard Christie a simple tap in for his goal.
The second goal came three minutes later when the ball was played to the far post and Christie had the time to fire his shot back across the goal and into the far corner.
Goal three came on ten minutes when a ball played over the home defence allowed Jermaine Hall to race clear. He then beat Beattie to the ball before rolling his shot home into the empty net.
Hall nearly compounded Petersfield’s misery further on 15 minutes when he had a good chance to head the ball home but he could only guide his effort over the crossbar.
The game then calmed down for most of the rest of the first half and the Petersfield side started to come to life before they conceded two more goals before the interval.
On 42 minutes a corner from the left missed everyone and went to the far post where Terry Griffiths was waiting. He hit a first time shot which took a slight deflection to take the ball past Beattie and into the net.
It was 5-0 a minute later when the ball was worked forward down the right and Hall met the cross at the near post to flick his header into the net.
Petersfield didn’t concede in the second half for over 25 minutes but it was the visitors who were continuing to create chances on goal.
In the opening minute of the half a corner was half cleared and as it was played back towards the edge of the box, Joshua Humbert let fly with a shot which had Beattie scrambling across his line but the ball went just wide of the target.
Humbert went close again four minutes later when a cross from the right found him at the far post but the ball bounced off of him and was easily dealt with rather than him powering home a shot from close range.
A mix up between Beattie and one of his defenders on the edge of the penalty area almost gifted AFC Dunstable another goal on 65 minutes. The keeper raced from his line to deal with a through ball, the defender got a touch to it to wrong foot his keeper and Christie sent his chip towards the empty net but it bounced up and over the crossbar.
The sixth goal came on 71 minutes when the ball was crossed into the box from the left and Christie knocked it into the path of Humbert who headed the ball into the net.
Substitute Adiel Mannion forced Beattie into making a save after he had flicked the ball over a defender and fired off a shot and Hall went close to scoring again but his effort went just wide of the far post.
The visitors got their seventh goal in injury time with a chance which typified Petersfield’s afternoon of defending. A cross from the left went under two feet before reaching substitute Brandon Carney and he turned the ball home from close range.
