Petersfield Town 2 Hanwell Town 0: PETERSFIELD Town made it four wins out of four at home as they saw off the challenge of a struggling Hanwell side last Wednesday night.

The Rams did enough to win the game against a visiting side who were looking for something from the game to pull themselves away from the relegation zone.

Although they had plenty of possession throughout the match, Hanwell lacked the cutting edge up front needed to make a break through against a Rams defence which had a relatively comfortable evening.

Petersfield had an early opportunity to score following a series of crosses into the penalty area but both Jordan Neal and Andy Todd could not apply the finishing touch at the far post.

On 20 minutes Connor Duffy fired well over the top from 25 yards out and three minutes later Bradley Simmonds fired a shot on goal which Anthony Ender had to tip around the post.

The Rams took the lead on 28 minutes when the ball was played inside to Howard Neighbour after being worked up the right wing. From 20 yards out he hit an unstoppable shot which flew past keeper Martin Herdman and hit the back of the net.

Hanwell then pressed again at the other end and Calum Duffy’s header from a corner had to be scrambled away before Tom Hunt tried his luck with a low shot which Ender held on to at his near post.

The Rams had two early chances to stretch their lead at the start of the second half. Neighbour checked inside his marker but his shot missed the far corner of the net and a free kick was knocked back across the face of goal but no one was there to tuck the ball over the line.

On 51 minutes Sam Hurrell drove a free kick for the visitors just over the crossbar and two minutes later Simmonds was allowed to drive forward unchallenged from the half way line but his shot went wide of the post.

Petersfield doubled their lead on 71 minutes when Sean Wain curled a free kick into the box from the right, which was knocked on towards the far post and captain Jamie Ford was there to bundle the ball over the line from close range.

Todd then picked up the ball in midfield and kept possession until he had taken it up into the penalty area but he put his shot over the crossbar.

Hanwell then had two more chances to at least get on the scoresheet. Gavin Hinds-Cadette tried to turn the ball home when a corner was chipped to the far post but his effort was hacked clear off the line and Connor Duffy then raced clear, chipped the ball over Jordan Geddes, and then tried to pick his spot to score but Ender managed to deflect his effort over the crossbar.
