THE FIGURES behind Petersfield Town’s winless run in league games makes the taste of victory this weekend that much sweeter.
Before the Rams’ 4-1 victory against Amesbury Town at Love Lane on Saturday, the last time Petersfield picked up three points in the league was on November 12, 2016.
Since that 2-1 win at Aylesbury, those connected to Petersfield Town have had to wait 28 league matches, 273 days, 2,520 minutes or 151,200 seconds of football to taste victory once again.
The wait for a home win in the league has been even longer – the last time the Rams recorded victory on Love Lane soil was a 3-2 success against Farnborough on August 9 last year.
The Rams’ faithful have faced a wait of 21 home league matches before the next three points was secured against Amesbury.
In his programme notes for tonight’s Wessex Premier Division home game against Hamble Club, chairman Graeme Moir highlights that a lot of hard work has gone into getting the club back to being able to enjoy winning ways again.
He said: “Saturday’s win over Amesbury Town wasn’t about luck, it came after hard work from a group of people absolutely determined to turn this club’s fortunes around.
“The football management have worked hard over the close season to bring together a group of players who not only want to play for the club, but want to start moving us forwards again after a very tough season in 2016-17.
“The players as well have been working hard during pre-season to get themselves in shape and also take on the thoughts, ideas and tactics of a new management team.
“Then off the field, the committee and loyal band of volunteers have been working incredibly hard to ensure we were ready for the season ahead.
“That win on Saturday was for all of those people and a reward for their hard work and loyalty which they have shown for the last few months.
“However, it was also a win for you, our supporters. You have had to put up with a lot in the last 12 months and at many clubs the fans would have walked away if they had to put up with such a long run of losing form.
“But you have stuck by us in big numbers and I hope Saturday showed you the potential of what the future could hold for our club with the young talent we have got.”
