Petersfield Town 0 Havant and Waterlooville 9: PETERSFIELD Town had to endure a thrashing at the hands of National League South outfit Havant and Waterlooville in the Second Round of the Portsmouth Senior Cup last Tuesday night.
Hawks boss Lee Bradbury fielded a strong team at Love Lane, using the occasion to give some of his fringe players vital match time to keep their fitness topped up.
The Rams deserve credit for sticking to their task and looked to be heading for only a 5-0 defeat until Havant’s superior fitness and quality told in the final ten minutes of the match, when they scored four of their goals.
The visitors took the lead after only two minutes when a cross from the left was tapped in from close range by Alfie Rutherford.
The visitors only had to wait three minutes for their second goal, which was almost a carbon copy of the first one with Rutherford scoring again.
Petersfield keeper Luke Eaton made a good double save on his line from close range shots before the third goal arrived on 16 minutes – this time a low through ball found Bradley Tarbuck who slotted his shot low past Eaton and into the net.
The home side managed to produce some attacking moves when they held on to possession of the ball. On 25 minutes a quick passing move through midfield fed the ball to Luke Walker and his skidding, low shot along the wet turf went straight through to Hawks keeper Alan Walker-Harris.
Havant got their fourth goal five minutes before half time from the penalty spot after a player was brought down as he made his way into the box. George Barker made no mistake with his spot kick.
The visitors stretched their lead further five minutes after the interval when Petersfield half cleared a corner and when it was worked back into the middle of the penalty area, Rutherford had the simplest of tap-ins to complete his hat-trick.
Another quick passing move gave Josh Wycherley a sight of goal on 65 minutes but from the edge of the box he hit his effort wide of the target.
Goal number six did not arrive until the 81st minute when Havant were awarded another penalty. This time substitute James Hayter slammed his spot kick into the net.
It was 7-0 three minutes later when Ryan Woodford headed home a corner from close range and the eighth goal came on 85 minutes when Theo Lewis was fed the ball inside the box after a good passing move on the left and he drilled his low shot into the net.
The scoring was completed two minutes from full time when Tarbuck picked the ball up on the right, and held off a challenge before striding into the penalty area and shooting across Eaton and inside the far post.
Petersfield: Eaton, Gilbert, Kershaw, Tremlett (Small), Plackett, Evans, Powell, Wycherley, Walker, Thomas (Boxall), W Essai. Subs not used: Kershaw, Mortimer.
