United Services Portsmouth Reserves 1 Petersfield Town 1 (United Services Portsmouth Reserves won 4-2 on penalties): PETERSFIELD Town bowed out of the Portsmouth Senior Cup at the first hurdle last Thursday night, losing 4-2 on penalties to United Services Portsmouth’s reserves team.

Manager Mark Summerhill included just a handful of first team regulars for the visit to Burnaby Road.

The Rams started well and took a third minute lead through Luke Payne but as the match progressed they seemed to lose momentum and play became more even. It was no great surprise when, in the 36th minute, the home side equalised through Declan Seiden.

The second half carried on in much the same vein with play generally scrappy and there were few clear cut chances, although United Services came close to taking the lead in the 55th minute when they hit the post.

The Rams had a better spell later in the game, with substitute Jordan Neal going close on a couple of occasions, but the deadlock could not be broken so the tie went to a penalty shoot-out.

United Services’ second string emerged victorious to cap a bad night for Petersfield.
