PETERSFIELD Town head to promotion chasing Egham Town tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm) eyeing a move into the top half of the Division 1 Central table for the first time this season.

Wednesday night’s 2-0 victory over struggling Hanwell Town at Love Lane took the Rams up to 12th place – their highest position in the Southern League so far this season.

Howard Neighbour’s shot from 20 yards out and a close range effort from captain Jamie Ford were enough to give them the three points.

Four wins in a row at home over the last fortnight has propelled the Rams into the mid-table group of teams and another victory this weekend could lift them another place in the table.

For manager Ian Saunders it is all fitting into his plan to see his side finish as high up the table as they can before the end of the season.

He said: “To win four games in a row at home has been a great effort on the part of my players but to do it with so many games played in such a short period of time makes that run all the more special.

“The results have set things up nicely for the end of season run-in for us and now we must look to push on and keep getting the wins and see where that takes us in the final few weeks of the campaign.

“I thought we were well worth our win against Hanwell. Howard scored a cracking goal and he is in a good run of form at the moment for us.

“They put us under more pressure during the second half but they lacked a cutting edge up front and didn’t look like getting a goal which would have put us under more pressure.”

Egham go into Saturday’s game in third place in the division, just three points behind league leaders Royston Town.

The Rams beat Egham 1-0 thanks to an Alek Przespolewski goal when the two sides last met in October.

Petersfield have injury concerns in their defence ahead of their trip to the Runnymede Stadium, with Lewis Hyde, Dan Sackman and Mike Needham all needing to recover from knocks before they can be considered for selection at the weekend.
