PETERSFIELD Town will be hoping their 100 per cent winning record in cup matches continues in the FA Cup on Saturday.
The Rams have netted four wins out of four in the FA Cup, Hampshire Senior Cup and Portsmouth Senior Cup so far this campaign – the latest being their 11-0 cup win against Widbrook United on Wednesday night.
However, this contrasts sharply with their league form in the Southern League where they have won only once in seven matches.
Petersfield will be hoping their cup form is taken into Saturday’s second qualifying round tie against Southern Premier Division outfit Cirencester Town at Love Lane (3pm).
Manager Ian Saunders knows that his side face a tough afternoon ahead and they will have to be at the top of their game to have any chance of continuing their record breaking run in the FA Cup and beating a side who sit in third place in the league above.
“It will be a very tough game for us and everything indicates that Cirencester will be the side who will come through this cup tie and go into the next round,” said Saunders.
“They have had a very good start to the season and I’m sure they will have seen the result we had against Weymouth in the last round and will be wary not to fall to a defeat in the same way.
“But it is the FA Cup and anything can happen on the day. You will always get a chance in games like this but the key will be that we make sure we take it when it comes along – that will be absolutely crucial in this game.
“It will also be important for people to come along on the day and show their support for the lads – when our fans give the team their full vocal backing it really does make a difference in terms of giving our players a lift.”
Petersfield have good and bad team news ahead of the game – the good news is striker Howard Neighbour has returned from suspension but the bad news is the Rams lose skipper Ryan Woodford to suspension for this game.
