PETERSFIELD Town’s task of getting three points from their home game against Aylesbury United tomorrow (Saturday) has been made more difficult by their win over Farnborough in midweek.

Tuesday night’s 3-2 victory at Love Lane has gone straight into Rams’ folklore as one of the most famous wins in the club’s history.

Dan Simmonds fired home a hat-trick on his debut, including a 35 yard effort described as “world class” by some in the crowd, as they watched a remarkable game unfold.

However, caretaker manager Andy Neal must now bring everyone’s feet firmly back on the ground if the Rams are to back up Tuesday night’s result with another three points at home.

“The Farnborough result was incredible – something which will live long in the memory for everyone involved at the club,” said Neal.

“It was a result that everyone deserved when you consider the efforts a lot of people have had to put in to stabilise the club after Ian Saunders departed just before the start of the season.

“It felt like a well earned reward for so many people on and off the pitch and their remarkable efforts on behalf of the club.

“However, now we must put Tuesday night behind us and prepare for a new challenge in the shape of Aylesbury United.

“Before the season started this game coming up this weekend was one we earmarked for three points at home so we must ensure we come back down to earth and prepare properly so we can get the right result.”

Aylesbury United have started the season in the same way the Rams have done – with a win and a defeat from their opening two matches.

United lost 3-1 at home to Potters Bar Town last Saturday and beat Beaconsfield SYCOB 2-1 on Monday evening.

Neal must attempt to get another victory without two of Tuesday’s starters – keeper Anthony Ender and defender Lewis Hyde have joined Ryman League side Horsham.

But the stand-in Rams boss is not perturbed by that and believes he has the players in his squad to fill those positions.

Neal added: “The senior and experienced players at the club like Dan Sackman, Alex Miroy, Olly Searle and Ryan Woodford have been superb for us in the two games we have played. They have all stepped up to the challenges we have and helped to guide the younger players through matchdays.

“We are still looking for new signings and we are working on a couple of things. We also have a good crop of youngsters pushing to make their break through into the first team squad too.”
