Petersfield Town 0 Sholing 6: PETERSFIELD fell to another heavy defeat on home soil when many people’s favourites for the Premier Division title came to Love Lane last Tuesday night.
They could have no complaints about this latest setback as the visitors, who scored three goals in each half, proved too strong for them.
The first goal came on 30 minutes when a corner was knocked back into the box from the edge of the area and Daniel Mason headed home from close range.
The second goal came eight minutes later when Alex Sawyer fired off a shot from outside the penalty area but it took a big deflection which saw it fly away from keeper Luke Eaton and into the net.
The third goal came two minutes later when good build up play through the midfield saw Terry Cuthbertson race clear into the box and he tucked his low shot under Eaton and into the net.
Eaton made a brilliant save at the beginning of the second half when a powerful header was heading towards the top corner but his acrobatic reflex save saw him flick the ball over the crossbar.
Sholing got their fourth goal on 57 minutes when the ball was worked forward towards the box and when the pass was slipped through the defence, Marvin McLean latched on to it and slotted his low shot home.
Petersfield then had a rare chance to score at the other end when Luke Walker was sent clear into the right hand side of the penalty area but when he tried to lift his shot over keeper Ryan Gosney, he proved just tall enough to prevent the ball going over him.
The fifth goal of the night came on 75 minutes following a period of quick Sholing passing which eventually saw the ball played to the far post where Bradey Norton knocked his shot home.
Eaton made a sharp save from Lee Wort at his near post before Sholing netted their final goal two minutes before the end when Wort received the ball inside the box.
He cut inside his marker and then left Eaton clutching at fresh air as he side stepped him too and then rolled the ball into the empty net.
Petersfield: Eaton, Elward, Kershaw, Tremlett (Johnson), Dove, Geddes, Powell, Small, Evans (Boxall), Walker (Bedford), W Essai. Subs not used: Thomas, M Essai.
