East Cowes Victoria 1 Petersfield Town 0: PETERSFIELD Town slipped up on the island with a 1-0 league defeat at East Cowes Victoria on Saturday.
The Rams started well and Harry Tremlett nodded over.
East Cowes hardly threatened in the first half, with their only effort coming from a free kick.
Chances were few and far between in the first period, with the only effort on target coming from an accurate long ball by Jordan Geddes to the feet of Matt Low, who took it well but at a narrow angle could only fire at the keeper.
East Cowes took the lead in the 57th minute. The visitors struggled to deal with a free kick and with the ball in the area a deflected effort fell to Harry Furness, who smashed into the roof of the goal.
Petersfield pressed for an equaliser, with Will Essai having the best effort. His weaving run into the area led to a shot, but a deflection took the power out the shot and the East Cowes keeper collected it.
The next big chance fell to Marvin Orepo. On the counter Low was taken down – however, with advantage being played, Ollie Kershaw chipped the ball to Orepo in the middle, but he couldn’t beat the home keeper.
In the closing stages there was a good chance for a Geddes equaliser. With a packed penalty area, a chipped cross was missed by everybody and headed for the back post. With Kris Stevens and Geddes at the back stick, it narrowly missed them as the game slipped away from the visitors.
