Blackfield and Langley 10 Petersfield Town 0: FROM a Petersfield perspective there is not much you can say about Saturday’s league game at Blackfield other than to move on from it.

There is no escaping the enormity of the scoreline – especially as it comes on the back of a 7-0 drubbing at home to Hamble Club four days previously.

It was a result which obviously weighed heavy on Jim Macey’s mind as the Rams boss quit his role as manager the following morning.

What turned into a disastrous afternoon for the Rams started to go wrong almost from the outset as the visitors found themselves 5-0 down after just 22 minutes.

The first goal came on four minutes when Jamie White picked up the ball on the left before cutting inside. Liam Robinson then latched on to the ball and his marker had to pull out of his challenge otherwise he would have given away a penalty – this gave the Blackfield man the time to steady himself and fire the ball into the far top corner of the net.

The next goal came two minutes later when keeper Jarid Hixon raced out of his penalty area to try and deal with a long ball through the middle. His attempted clearance was charged down by Michael Turvey and he then rolled the ball into the unguarded net.

It was 3-0 on 15 minutes when Blackfield broke clear down the right after Petersfield lost possession when going forward. A low cross into the near post found White whose shot beat Hixon from close range.

The next goal arrived four minutes later when Petersfield again failed to clear the danger and Turvey hit his shot past Hixon and into the net.

Petersfield’s poor luck was typified by the fifth goal on 22 minutes. Defender Chris Harvey managed to block a low ball played in from the left but there was so much back spin on the ball, instead of it rolling out for a corner it completely changed direction and beat Hixon at his near post.

Blackfield continued to have chances and Robinson went close to scoring when his shot from the edge of the box was deflected wide and White latched on to a long through ball, cut inside his marker but shot straight into Hixon’s arms.

Petersfield finally created their first chance of the game on 41 minutes when Marcus Bedford’s good play put Joe Boxall in behind the home defence. He pulled the ball back to Luke Kendall on the edge of the penalty area but he blazed his shot well over.

Blackfield should have got their sixth goal on the stroke of half time when White got clear of the visiting defence again. Hixon parried his first shot and the Blackfield man’s follow up effort beat his dive but the ball was hacked off the line by a covering defender.

Any hopes by Petersfield of a better second half evaporated when Blackfield scored three minutes after the restart. The Rams lost the ball in midfield and quick passing saw Robinson play the ball inside to White and he was able to stroke the ball home with ease.

The seventh goal came on 64 minutes when Robinson got on the end of a low ball in from the right and his low shot beat Hixon.

Blackfield had a goal disallowed when Sam Poole headed home a corner but he was judged to have pushed a defender out of the way to get to the ball. However, goal number eight came with seven minutes remaining.

The ball was crossed into the penalty area from the right and although Hixon managed to save the initial shot substitute James Guthrie had the simplest of tap-ins to knock the ball home from close range.

The home side then scored two goals in two minutes to complete Petersfield’s humiliation. Goal number nine came when the ball was played in from the left and White was given all the time he needed to control the ball and then turn and fire home from six yards out.

Blackfield reached double figures when no one in the Petersfield defence dealt with a ball straight down the middle of the pitch and Guthrie walked the ball around Hixon and rolled his shot into the empty net.
