Hythe and Dibden 3 Petersfield Town 0: FOLLOWING their heavy League Cup defeat in midweek, Petersfield faced the daunting task of visiting league leaders Hythe and Dibden last Saturday.

In the opening ten minutes there was little to choose between the sides and it was the Rams who created the first real chance in the 10th minute when Harry Giles unleashed a powerful shot that went just wide.

The home side became increasingly threatening and in the 16th minute they were awarded a penalty, a decision that the Petersfield contingent felt was extremely harsh.

Sam Woodward made no mistake from the spot to put Hythe ahead. Hythe doubled their lead in the 25th minute when keeper Tim Jackson saved a goal-bound header but the ball fell to Cain Prentice who slotted it home.

After the break Petersfield increased the pressure on Hythe and had them on the back foot for much of the half. Frustratingly, for all their good play they could not manage to break through, although they went close on numerous occasions.

Inevitably they were vulnerable to counter attacks and in the 72nd minute it took a fine double save from Jackson to keep the Rams in the game.

In the 82nd minute from another counter attack, Wayne O’Dell shot past Jackson to make it 3-0 and make the game safe.

The Rams returned home empty handed, but it was an encouraging display.
