Petersfield Town 2 Shaftesbury 0: PETERSFIELD Town’s home season finished with smiles on faces in the Rams’ camp after this victory against Shaftesbury on Saturday.

Rams fans will be hoping this is a sign of things to come – a performance with plenty of promise shown by many players and a move towards more stable times at The Surefix Home Improvements Stadium next season.

Petersfield broke the deadlock on 39 minutes after a free kick was floated into the box. The visitors didn’t clear their lines properly and as the ball bounced around the penalty area Matt Malin managed to get a touch to it and it then ran into the path of Harry Tremlett, who smashed his shot home into the bottom corner of the net.

Petersfield almost doubled their lead four minutes into the second half when Billy Connor won a free kick 25 yards out from goal. Tremlett curled his shot past the Shaftesbury wall but it hit the top of the crossbar.

On 57 minutes the Rams went close again when Jordan Hughes picked up the ball inside his own half and launched it forward. Connor got to the ball and took it into the penalty area before he lifted it over keeper Dan Card but also over the goal.

Petersfield got their second goal on 73 minutes when Connor picked up the ball and got past the Shaftesbury defence before driving into the right hand side of the penalty area. He hit an inch perfect cross into the path of Olly Kershaw who bundled the ball home from close range.
