Amesbury Town 1 Petersfield Town 3: THE RAMS reached the next round of the Wessex League Cup with two late goals from Jordan Neal under the lights at Amesbury Town.

The visitors took the lead in the 13th minute. Will Essai weaved between three defenders and played in the overlapping Sean Burton. His cross found Will Webb at the back post, who finished off the move.

The hosts looked a little more lively and they got themselves back on level terms when Jordon Matthews’ shot trickled through the defence via a deflection and into the net.

Mark Summerhill brought on Neal in the 65th minute – and he almost scored when he controlled the ball well on the edge of the area, but his effort narrowly went past the far post.

The Rams then earned a free kick on the edge of the area. Harry Bedford stepped up and superbly curled his effort towards the far corner, but Jordan Tewkesbury dived and tipped the shot round the post.

Amesbury gave away a penalty on 87 minutes when Tewkesbury tangled with Neal after the pair tried to get the ball. Neal fired the penalty into the top corner.

Midfielder George Plank took over in goal for the hosts, but the Rams wrapped up the win when Neal scored his second. Plank slipped on a goal kick, gifting the ball to Neal and he slotted the ball underneath the makeshift keeper to make it 3-1.

The Rams go through to the third round to face a trip to Hamble Club.
