PETERSFIELD Town must put their biggest defeat of the season so far behind them as their quest for more league points continues tonight.

The Rams were thrashed 8-0 at play-off chasing Barton Rovers on Saturday thanks to some sloppy defending which allowed the hosts to score almost at will.

John Robson will be hoping his side fare better against mid-table Hanwell Town at Love Lane this evening, with Petersfield still looking to take their points tally into double figures for the campaign.

Chairman Graeme Moir said: “Saturday was not a good day for us at all – you can’t dress the result or performance up in any other way.

“Following the heroics against Moneyfields in the cup during the previous game, I thought we could go to Barton and give a strong account of ourselves and give them a good game.

“But we were some way short of doing that. We just didn’t get going on the day, gave away some soft goals and didn’t do ourselves justice whatsoever.”

Petersfield and Hanwell are yet to face each other in the league this season so Moir is hoping the Rams will be able to produce a surprise or two to get at least a point from tonight’s home game.

He added: “I’m sure Hanwell will come to Love Lane confident they can get three points from their trip – most teams probably do that at the moment.

“However, they haven’t seen us play yet this season and if we can perform close to the level we did against Moneyfields we will have a chance of getting something from the game.

“We can’t afford just to write off the last six league games of the season – points could still have some significance for us when the FA look at who goes where at the end of the season.

“For that to come into play we have to move on from nine points and with the greatest respect to Hanwell, tonight provides us with that opportunity.

“The players showed what they are capable of producing against Moneyfields and we need to hit that level of performance in every game now – not just when there is a game at Fratton Park at stake.

“Doubling our points tally to 18 points is achievable in the final six games but it will take some hard work over the final month of the league season to do that.”

Petersfield are hoping to have a few more players back in their squad after Saturday’s match. Defender Josh Wycherley is available for selection again after serving a one match suspension but striker Billy Connor is still likely to be out with a leg injury.
