WHEN it comes to respect and fair play, Petersfield Town were one of the leading clubs for both in the Southern League last season.

Statistics for the 2015-16 season just released by league officials show the Rams were third in the Fair Play Table for the Evo-Stik League Southern Division 1 Central.

The club finished in seventh place in the division’s Respect Table, which not only measures discipline but takes into account the way facilities are presented and the level of hospitality offered.

Petersfield had the eighth best record in the whole of the Southern League in the Fair Play tables, where points are given to teams for the number of bookings and red cards they pick up, as well as for the type of offences.

Only Arlesey Town and Fleet Town could better their record in Division 1 Central.

Manager Ian Saunders said: “Keeping your discipline is one of the most important things we instil in our players. You can’t win matches when red cards are being picked up and you can’t challenge for honours if your best players are sitting on the sidelines suspended a lot of the time.”

The Respect Table not only takes into account cards handed out to sides but it also awards points based on the views in the referee’s match report. Rams chairman Graeme Moir said: “For our off-field operations to contribute to seventh place is an enormous credit to our committee members and volunteers who work so hard.”
