Petersfield Town head to Uxbridge tonight needing to raise their game and put in the kind of performance which will bring them more league points.
The Rams need to recover from a poor performance against Aylesbury United on Saturday when they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Love Lane.
The scoreline suggests it was a tight game but Petersfield were barely able to muster a shot on goal during the whole 90 minutes.
The weekend’s low followed the high of beating Farnborough 3-2 last Tuesday night and now Petersfield’s new-look side must aim to find some consistency to ensure they keep picking up points.
Chairman Graeme Moir said: “Saturday was disappointing as we didn’t do ourselves justice and play to the full strengths we know that we have in the squad.
“No disrespect to Aylesbury United but we know we are capable of beating sides like them and that is what we must do to regularly keep chalking up league points as the season continues.
“There was a huge difference in the level of performance between the Farnborough game and Saturday. We were magnificent against Farnborough and playing that well every match will be difficult but what the lads need to now do is get as close to that level every match as we can – if we keep doing that we will be alright and will get the results we are looking for.”
The Rams will be looking to find some form on the road in the coming weeks as since they have moved up to the Southern League they haven’t always been the best travellers.
Their last away league win came on January 23 at Royston Town and since that victory they have lost seven out of eight away league games played.
However, the trip to Uxbridge may give them the perfect opportunity to break that poor run as their hosts have only got one more point from their first three league matches this season.
“I’m not sure why we don’t travel well as we are good enough to get points on the road,” added Moir.
“I guess being one of the sides who has to travel the longest distances to get to matches doesn’t help us but last year we made up for our away form by being very strong at home.
“We need to discover the secret formula to getting results on the road – whether we have to change our approach or preparations to away days or whether just getting a change of luck will help us, I’m not sure what the answer is.
“Uxbridge have had a similar start to the season as we have so if we go there in the right frame of mind and put in a better performance than we did at the weekend, then there is no reason why we can’t get a result tonight.”
