PETERSFIELD Town have an early chance to put the disappointment of Saturday’s defeat behind them when they head to Beaconsfield SYCOB tonight (Monday).

Although the 3-2 scoreline suggests the Rams were unlucky not to get anything from their Division 1 Central fixture at Love Lane over the weekend, that doesn’t tell the full story of the match.

Petersfield trailed Bedford 3-0 at half time and the visitors could easily have stretched their lead to double figures in the first 45 minutes, as they also missed a penalty, had two goals disallowed, shook the crossbar and had various other chances on goal.

Manager John Robson must look to pick his players up from that performance, which improved marginally during the second half, for tonight’s league encounter.

“Saturday really was a tough game to stomach,” said Rams chairman Graeme Moir. “In my nine years at the club the first half was the worst half of football I have seen from a Petersfield team.

“It could easily have been 10-0 at half time and if it had been we wouldn’t have had any complaints about that. We just couldn’t keep hold of the ball up front, the midfield won nothing at all and Bedford were opening our defence up with ease.

“There was just nothing performance wise from anyone. We pulled two goals back in the second half, which I guess you could class as progress of sorts, but we didn’t deserve anything from the match.

“We have brought a lot of young players into the club in recent weeks and they are still bedding in and that will take time but we need some form of results to start happening quickly now.

“We need to give more all round and really pull together to bring this cycle of defeats to an end. I hope John and his coaching team can lift everyone for this game so we can give things a good go tonight.

“I’ve always said the players we have are good enough individually for this level – many of them have a lot of experience at Southern League standard – but as a team they need to come together now and work together like they haven’t done before so far this season.”

Petersfield have no new injury or suspension worries heading into tonight’s game. Nick Awford is still serving out his seven game ban and the main issue for the Rams will be getting players to west London before kick-off due to work commitments.
