PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill is expecting a tough test when his side travel to Totton and Eling on Saturday in Division One of the Sydenhams Wessex League.
Despite being second bottom, Totton have picked up four points from their past three home games, beating Laverstock and Ford and drawing against Ringwood Town.
Petersfield beat Totton and Eling 3-0 in the reverse league fixture at Love Lane in November, but Summerhill is expecting a difficult afternoon for his side on Saturday.
“Totton is a tough place to go and they’re a good young side,” said the Petersfield manager.
“They get good results at their place, and have beaten some good teams at home, but we should be going and looking to win these games. We’re tenth and we’re in and around where we want to be.
“This is my third season at the club and we’re always learning. I was very disappointed with a point against Ringwood on Saturday, but that shows how far we’ve come as a club.”
Petersfield have the best defensive record in Division One of the Sydenhams Wessex League this season, having conceded only 23 goals, and Summerhill now wants his side to have more of an attacking threat and be more clinical in the final third.
“I need to think how we can get more bodies forward and keep bodies forward,” said the Petersfield manager. “We play 4-5-1 a lot and look to hit teams on the counter-attack.
“We’ve laid really good foundations this season and can still have a really good go at it. There is still a lot to play for.”
Summerhill is pleased with how his new recruit, striker Max Lawes, has settled in at Love Lane.
“Max looks like a really good addition,” said Summerhill. “He’s a player. The ball sticks to his feet.”
