PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill hailed his side’s character after they came back from 2-0 down to rescue a point at Laverstock and Ford on Saturday.

The Rams looked to be heading for defeat on the opening day of the season, but Matt Low’s penalty and Jordan Neal’s late equaliser earned a share of the spoils.

The visitors found themselves 2-0 down after two mistakes by Ryan Kennedy, but Summerhill was pleased with how his side responded to those setbacks.

He said: “We showed good character and I would have taken a point all day long before the game.

“We went behind after a horrendous mistake, but it was then all us and we created really good chances.

“Another mistake on the stroke of half time cost us, and I couldn’t believe we were 2-0 down as we had dominated the game.

“Ryan was devastated after the two errors, but he really showed his character in the second half.

“I thought if we got one we’d be back in the game, and when Matt made it 2-1 it was all one-way traffic.

“We had more composure in the second half and it was great we kept going to the last minute and scored.”

While Summerhill was happy with a draw, the Rams boss admitted his side could have won the game.

“It’s a difficult one as we could and really should have taken the three points. There was only one team in it and that hopefully points to a successful season,” he said.
