PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill is delighted with his side after they started their pre-season campaign with a victory.

The Rams won 3-2 at Hayling United on Saturday (July 6).

Matt Low, Gari Judd and Bailey Newbury scored the goals which gave the visitors the win.

While results aren’t the priority in pre-season, Summerhill was pleased with his side’s efforts.

He said: “Results are not important in pre-season, but it’s nice to start with a win.

“It was very hot and the pitch was like concrete. We started well and Matt Low scored with a great finish.

“Gari Judd scored the second, but at that point we stopped playing and took extra touches, and the weather got the better of us.

“It was a great opportunity to get minutes in the players’ legs, and Bailey Newbury’s free kick to win the game was right in the postage stamp.

“We were missing six first-team regulars and took five substitutes with us.

“All in all it was a really positive start for us.”

Summerhill was particularly pleased with new recruits Low and Cam Smith, who were making their club debuts.

He added: “It was great that Matt scored on his debut and I was really pleased with Matt and Cam. They will both be great additions for us.

“Ryan Kennedy made his first start since his leg break and he got through 80 minutes unscathed, which was a great run out for him.”
