PETERSFIELD Town manager Ian Saunders made his players sit and watch Kings Langley’s title winning celebrations and then vowed – I want that to be us again next season.
The curtain came down on the Southern League season in dramatic style at Love Lane on Saturday as the visitors claimed the Division 1 Central title in their final match.
The scenes which followed at the final whistle have been associated with the Rams over the last two years when they won back to back Wessex League titles.
However, at the weekend they had to sit back and watch someone else grab the champions’ limelight.
And while it was uncomfortable viewing for many in Petersfield colours, Saunders believes it was important for his players to take in the celebrations.
“I absolutely hate watching other teams celebrate winning something – particularly when it is on your own patch,” he explained.
“However, we need to store up that feeling and use it to drive us forward next year.
“I want it to be us celebrating league and cup wins again and although it was painful to watch on Saturday, hopefully that will give us the drive we need for our next campaign.”
Saunders is more than happy with what has been achieved in the club’s first season at step four level, which saw the Rams achieve the highest league finish in their history and best ever run in the FA Cup.
