PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill was able to see the positives after his side were held to a goalless draw by Andover Town on Saturday.

The Rams created several chances, but they were unable to make the breakthrough and had to settle for a point from the Sydenhams Wessex League Division One fixture.

And despite not picking up all three points, Summerhill remained upbeat.

“It was a funny game,” he said. “We had some clear-cut chances, including a one-on-one for Matt Low, although Matt Petts had to make one amazing save.

“On balance both teams would have felt unlucky to lose it, and a point was a fair result.

“We created the better chances, but I’m not too disappointed with a point.

“Andover have added a bit of steel to what they do, and we weren’t quite at it like we have been. Had we scored early on it would have been a different story. We were much improved on our performance at Fawley last week, but we were still a little bit flat.

“A draw isn’t the end of the world and we’ve got six wins and two draws from our past eight league games. Maybe we’re overachieving and we’re expecting a little bit too much.

“It was another clean sheet, and we defended really well.”

Andover were reduced to ten men in the second half when Howard Nhemachena was sent off, and Summerhill felt the referee had no choice.

He said: “It was definitely a sending off, but Andover actually picked up from that point. We changed to two up front, but they grew into the game and got stronger.

“Marvin Orepo was a constant threat for us, and we brought Gari Judd and Jordan Neal on, but it wasn’t to be.”

The Rams are without a game this Saturday as they were scheduled to travel to Pewsey Vale, who have dropped out of the league.

The next league game is a home match against Romsey Town on Tuesday night (December 10), and Summerhill is expecting a difficult match.

“We won a really tight game at Romsey earlier in the season,” he said. “We’re targeting three points, but it will be a tough game as Romsey are a very good side.”

The Rams have strengthened their squad with the arrival of Joe Roberts from Thames Valley Premier League side Burghfield, and Summerhill is pleased to get his man.

“Joe can play anywhere across the back four and midfield,” said the Rams boss.
