PETERSFIELD Town manager Jim Macey admitted that Saturday’s win over Amesbury Town had left him feeling “over the moon.”

But the Rams boss will ensure he has come back out of orbit and his feet are firmly back on planet earth in time for the visit of Hamble Club to Love Lane tonight (Tuesday) in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division.

Macey couldn’t praise his young side enough for their performance after the game which brought Petersfield their first league win since mid-November 2016 and their first league win at home in over a year.

He is hoping that result at the weekend will give his squad the confidence they need to go on and enjoy plenty more winning days in the Wessex League this season.

He said: “I thought we totally deserved the win and we dominated most of the game, even after going a goal down in the first half.

“Harry Giles was my man-of-the-match, he worked his socks off and his running with the ball hurt them.

“I would also like to make a special mention about the finish for his goal by Joe Boxall ¬– it was an outstanding goal, lobbing the keeper from 25 yards.

“I hope the boys take a lot of confidence from the game on Saturday and are able to take that into their performance during the game against Hamble Club.

“It was great to get our first three points on the board on Saturday and I am so pleased for my young side.”

Wessex Premier Division new boys Hamble Club were promoted from Division 1 last season as champions and they are looking to make their mark as one of the leading sides at this higher level during the current campaign.

Macey knows his side are in for another tough examination on Tuesday evening as the visiting side’s squad boasts plenty of players who have experience playing at higher levels of the non-league game.

He added: “We know it’s another very tough game against good opponents who have started the season very well.

“They came up from Division 1 and are looking to make a strong impression on the Premier Division.”

Petersfield Town face Hamble Club in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division at Love Lane tonight (Tuesday). Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
