PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill is reasonably happy with how his team’s season has gone so far.

The Rams are currently in 14th place in Division 1 of the Sydenhams Wessex League.

Summerhill said: “It has been a mixed start.

“We’ve beaten Guildford City in the FA Cup, Christchurch in the League Cup and Portchester in the Russell Cotes Cup, and they are all higher-ranked teams.

“Against the top teams we play very well, but against the weaker teams we sometimes go down to their level.”

Summerhill is clear in his mind on one way his side can improve, by being more clinical in front of goal.

“We have created a lot of chances but we’ve not always taken them,” said Summerhill.

“Against Whitchurch we had five or six golden chances we didn’t take.

“We have some good finishers though and we have been working on our finishing in training.”

Next up for the Rams is a trip to league leaders Amesbury Town, but Summerhill is confident ahead of the game.

He said: “Amesbury are a good side but we have nothing to fear. We would like to be in the top eight of the league.”
