PETERSFIELD Town manager Mark Summerhill is targeting three points when his side host Laverstock and Ford at Love Lane in Division One of the Sydenhams Wessex League on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams boss is not underestimating his team’s opponents, though, and is expecting a tough match.

“Laverstock are tough opponents,” said Summerhill.

“They are a young team who like to play football. They beat us at Love Lane last season, and we went there and scored in the last minute to get a draw earlier this season. At home we will be looking to win it, but it’s certainly not a home banker.

“These are the sorts of games we need to look to win, but with the games in hand we’ve got a point wouldn’t be the end of the world.”

Petersfield will then travel to National League outfit Eastleigh next Tuesday night (December 17) in the third round of the Hampshire Senior Cup, and Summerhill is looking forward to the test.

“The whole club is looking forward to it and it will be a great night,” he said.

The Rams are in the top half of the Division One table and have games in hand on everyone else in the division, and Summerhill is pleased with where his side are placed.

“We’re in a great position, although we’re a victim of our own success with the cup wins,” said Summerhill.

“They are great for confidence at the club, and they create an atmosphere throughout the club. I didn’t expect us to be in this position with games in hand. I’m really pleased.

“We like to play football, but we try not to concede and we work hard off the ball.

“We defend from the front, which makes us hard to beat. There is a wave of positivity at the club at the moment.”
