Petersfield Town 0 Newport (IOW) 3: THE RAMS were left to rue an early penalty miss as Newport (IOW) came away with the three points at Love Lane on Saturday.

Despite missing key players Matt Rowland and Jordan Geddes, the hosts started the match well and created a few opportunities.

The best chance came in the sixth minute when the Rams were awarded a penalty, won by Gari Judd as Newport’s Darren Powell brought him down. However, Judd could not capitalise as Gary Streeter made a strong save to keep it 0-0.

The Rams kept plugging away with multiple shots on goal, however, Streeter comfortably saved all the efforts.

The visitors took the lead in the 31st minute when Neo Lamb’s long-range shot rolled into the bottom corner past Nick Hall.

Petersfield started the second half brightly and won a free kick in a dangerous area. Richard Way struck the ball nicely under the wall, but the visiting keeper was there again to palm the shot away and keep his clean sheet intact.

Newport put the game to bed in the 70th minute with a fine counter attack. Jared Cousins slotted the ball between the defence to Connor Kelly, who then dispatched the ball calmly into the bottom right-hand corner.

The final blow was dealt in the 78th minute with Kelly’s second and Newport’s third. Jared Wetherick held the ball up in the middle of the park from three Rams players to put Kelly through on goal, and he again beat Hall from the same angle.
