Petersfield Town 2 Eversley and California 1: PETERSFIELD Town marked the unveiling of John Robson as their new manager by picking up only their second competitive win of the season last Tuesday night.
The Rams saw off Eversley and California – who are two steps below them in the non-league pyramid system – in the first round of the Russell Cotes Cup.
The victory set up a second round home tie against Wessex Division 1 side Hamble Club.
Petersfield got off to the best possible start at Love Lane by taking the lead after only two minutes.
After good build up play Alfy Whittingham was put clear in some space and he dispatched his shot into the net off the inside of the post.
The visitors drew level on 29 minutes when Lewis Robson picked up the ball on the right hand edge of the penalty area and hit a shot across keeper Matt Petts and it found the far corner of the net.
The Rams got what proved to be the winner on 70 minutes when Stuart Green’s through ball was partially blocked but Harry Wedlake picked up the loose ball before side footing his shot past keeper Charlie Lusty.
Petersfield: Petts, Searle, Buckland, Green, Woodford, Benjamin, Giles, Wedlake, Whittingham, J Neal, Corsaro. Subs: Cripps, Newman, M Smith, Harvey, B Neal.
