Petersfield Town 1 AFC Stoneham 0: THE RAMS made it three wins out of three in cup competitions this season when they pulled off one of the shocks of the round in defeating Wessex League Premier Division side AFC Stoneham in the FA Vase at Love Lane on Saturday.
The game started brightly and although Stoneham shaded possession the Rams looked well organised.
Petersfield had the first good chance in the 15th minute when Will Webb weaved his way through the Stoneham defence before unleashing a powerful shot which went over the bar.
The visitors had to wait until the 23rd minute for their first opportunity when a ball into the box was tipped over the bar by Matt Petts.
A minute later they went close again when a shot from Arthur Kerton was cleared off the line by Olly Kershaw.
Stoneham’s next chance came in the 37th minute when a shot from Eduardo Jimenez cleared the bar.
In the 43rd minute the Rams went close to going ahead when Harry Tremlett’s shot hit the post after some fine approach play.
The second half continued in a similar vein with some entertaining football but few clear cut chances.
In the 73rd minute Tremlett shot just wide of the post and a couple of minutes later Harry Bedford’s fiercely struck shot from distance went well over the bar.
The Rams then took the lead in the 78th minute when Tremlett played the ball in from the left and Marvin Orepo calmly placed the ball past Matt Fredericks.
